Climate Change and the Change Within

Climate change!

Climate change is one of the most prevalent problem that we face today in terms of our environment. This is as well the biggest problem that we are just ignoring. Many says that, “we don’t see and feel it, so why matter.” This mentality can be considered as fatal to earth and as well as to our very own humanity. As you can see this is the very root of this problem, it may be generic in other sense but in terms of this enormous problem that we face, this mentality is a wrong ideology to follow. Environmentalist always says that “Earth (common home) is in deep sickness.” Climate change is some enormous bacteria that greatly affects our home and puts us in this problematic situation.
Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. Effects that scientists had predicted in the past that would result from global climate change are now occurring: there are loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves. These phenomena increase the temperature of earth. Many scientist believes that this temperature increase will continue for upcoming decades if we will not do something to prevent this from happening. This is due to greenhouse gases produce by human activities. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which includes more than 1,300 scientists from the United States and other countries, forecasts a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century. This will be more problematic as time pass by because earth’s temperature will continue to rise due to this problem. “Taken as a whole," the IPCC states, "the range of published evidence indicates that the net damage costs of climate change are likely to be significant and to increase over time." That is why if we continue to be ignorant and consistently have this cynic mentality this will be so fatal not only to our home but as well as to our very own humanity.

Our future and the future generation is in grave danger if we remain to be so static. We need to do something to unravel this enormous problem. Because if we continue to be ignorant future effects of global climate change will occur such as:

  • Change will continue through this century and beyond
  • Temperature will continue to rise
  • Frost-free season and (Growing season) will lengthen
  • Changes in Precipitation Process
  • More Droughts and Heat Waves
  •  Hurricanes will become stronger and more intense
  •  Sea levels will rise 1-4 feet by 2100
  •  Arctic likely to become Ice-free
We as humans, always have a big role to act upon since we are the owner of this planet, we should consistently do what is necessary to help our planet. Basically, the relationship of humanity and environment is in a delicate balance. Every time that man’s population increase it has always greatly affects the environment. Deforestation, pollution, and global climate change are the adverse effect of this increase. That is why we need to ponder every bit of our own action because every fracture of our act greatly affects the environment in general. We need to move and take actions to fight climate change. We are enormous mass of people we should not be afraid to do something because the good news is: We are not alone. People, communities, cities, businesses, schools, faith groups and other organizations are taking action. We’re fighting like our lives depend on it — because they do.
We can do something. We can make big changes. Don’t be afraid to make a move. There are various things that we can do to fight or prevent climate change. These are just some:
·         Use energy wisely
·         Get charged up with renewables
·         Eat for a climate-stable planet
·         Start a climate conversation
·         Green your commute
·         Consume less, waste less, enjoy life more
·         Invest in renewables and divest from fossil fuels
·         Support and join youth-led movements
As the world warms, many different problems continuous to occur due to this phenomenon. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense, sea levels are rising, prolonged droughts are putting pressure on food crops, and many animal and plant species are being driven to extinction. It’s hard to imagine what we as individuals can do to resolve a problem of this scale and severity. But all we need to do is to believe and take the first step. We are enormous mass of people, if we all became concerned to our very own home nothing can stop us. No matter how big the problem is, we can do something about it. We can all be an agent of good change to our very own planet. This does not only contribute to our environment but as well as to our very own identity and humanity.

“In a world of more than seven billion people, each of us is a drop in the bucket. But with enough drops, we can fill any bucket.”
